In March, 2012 a group of caring residents of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association decided to form an organization with their mission: to serve others in the community. They felt a need for a structured organization to continue their efforts. This was the beginning of Beyond Ourselves, the community service organization of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association.

Beyond Ourselves meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the PGICA. New members are always welcome to join and help with our events and fundraisers. Yearly dues are $10 per family. If you have any questions, please contact our President, Debra Griffith, debraatc@aol.com.

In March, 2012 a group of caring residents of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association decided to form an organization with the only mission: to serve others in the community. They felt a need for a structured organization to continue their efforts

At the beginning Beyond Ourselves decided to focus on three different missions:

The first interest is for the homeless of Charlotte County. Beyond Ourselves has been active with the Homeless Coalition, serving meals, collecting food, and sponsoring the annual “Shoebox Event.” Last year(2018) 315 shoeboxes were filled with personal toiletry items, and given as gifts to residents of the Homeless Coalition.

The second concern is for the wildlife in the beautiful environment of Charlotte Harbor. The Beyond Ourselves members got together with the Peace River wildlife center to educate others and to help support the wildlife center.

The third mission is to help the children of Charlotte County.

The 2019 "Share the Love for the Kids" Home Tour was a major fundraiser for Beyond Ourselves, which benefitted the children of Charlotte County. Specific charities for 2019 were Crossroads HOPE Academy, Back Pack Kidz, Guardian ad Litem, Charlotte County GAP, Charlotte County Homeless Project, Drug Free Punta Gorda, and St Vincent de Paul. The tour of 6-7 homes each year provides critical funds for these organizations. $63,000.00 was raised for these organizations with the 2019 Home Tour alone, with another $272,500 raised in past years. TOTAL to date is $335,500. Beyond Ourselves has certainly made a difference for the children of Charlotte County.

In 2016, Beyond Ourselves members started a new fundraiser which we call the Beyond Ourselves Bash (BOB). This was held to raise funds for other Beyond Ourselves charities. This event has been very successful for the last 3 years and in 2018 we raised $6400 for each of these charities: Charlotte County Homeless and Peace River Wildlife Center.

This club, which is part of the Punta Gorda Isles Civic Association, doesn't have a logo of their own, so I've provided the main PCICA logo.
